Japanese Quality in the Kitchen
The Satake Tomoko Gyuto is a highly versatile 18 cm Japanese chef’s knife – a true kitchen essential. It is ideal for precise cutting of vegetables, fruits, meats, and fish. Thanks to its pointed tip, it is also excellent for filleting tasks such as deboning chicken breast, trimming pork or beef from bones, or filleting small fish (though a dedicated filleting knife may be even more effective).
Its optimal blade length ensures easy handling and greater control, even on larger cutting surfaces. The gyuto, or Japanese chef’s knife, is a must-have for both hobby chefs and professionals.
Origins of the Gyuto
The gyuto (牛刀), meaning "beef knife", appeared during Japan’s Meiji era (1868–1912), a time when Western cuisine began influencing Japanese food culture. With beef becoming more popular, there was a need for a knife suited to meat preparation. Inspired by Western chef’s knives, the gyuto retained Japanese traits such as a thinner blade and sharper point.
Today, the gyuto is one of the most popular Japanese kitchen knives worldwide, perfect for slicing meat, fish, or vegetables with ease.
